Memory
When you have to memorise something, you want to memorise it in long term memory. The only way to properly do this is via repetitions.
Memorisation Techniques:
- Chinking: Organising information into more easily learned groups. Short term memory is being said to have a memory capacity of about 4 chunks. Dividing up a telephone number into X chunks makes it much easier to memorise than seeing it as one long number.
- Pattern chunking: remember patterns instead of the actual information. A sort of encoding of information. Mnemonic devices for example: My (Mercury) Very (Venus) Excellent (Earth) Mom (mars) Just (Jupiter) Served (Saturn) Us (Uranus) Noodles (Neptune) to remember all 8 planets.
- Categorical chunking: Place things into categories. Ordering them already helps to remember them
